The Blessed Virgin Mary

This page is not everything about Mary but just a tiny, small piece.
Mary is not a person in history to read about, but like her Son Jesus, we are called to have a relationship with her.  She is our spiritual mother through her Son Jesus Christ.
When I'm in prayer, or in a time of need, but not sure what to do or say, I always ask for her intercession, "Mary, my mother. I don't know what to say or do. Help me."  She immediately gives me the words or the direction of my need.  I'm always amazed at how quickly she answers and how much more my mind, body, and soul are open to Jesus.  This time I was praying and my mind felt like it was just jumbled with all kinds of things - worry to worry - so I prayed, "Mary, what am I supposed to say to Jesus?  What is my prayer for Him right now?"  She answered quickly, "Jesus, be everything that I desire. You are my will."  When I first started to ask for her intercession I felt odd, like I was taking something away from Jesus, but the more that I kept praying for her intercession the closer I became to Jesus.  My relationship with Mary is key for my relationship with her Son Jesus Christ because she unlocks so many graces through our prayers.
"What the Catholic faith believes about Mary is based on what it believes about Christ, and what it teaches about Mary illumines in turn its faith in Christ." (Catechism of the Catholic Church)

May is the Month of Mary - Month of Mary
October is the month of the Holy Rosary
The First Saturday of each month is dedicated to Marian devotions - The Five First Saturdays Devotion

The Blessed Virgin Mary had, and still does have, one of the most important roles in the history of our salvation.  She is the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The angel St. Gabriel was sent to the town of Nazareth and said to Mary, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." (Luke 1:28)  St. Gabriel then told Mary not to fear because she had found favor with God, she would then conceive in her womb Jesus, and that Jesus will be called Son of the Most High and of His kingdom there will be no end (Luke 1:29-33).  Mary asked how could that be since she had no relations with a man and St. Gabriel told her, "The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.  Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God."  Mary's final reply was, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.  May it be done to me according to your word."  (Luke 1:38)

"At the announcement that she would give birth to "the Son of the Most High" without knowing man, by the power of the Holy Spirit, Mary responded with the obedience of faith, certain that, "with God nothing will be impossible":  "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word."  Thus, giving her consent to God's word, Mary becomes the mother of Jesus.  Espousing the divine will for salvation wholeheartedly, without single sin to restrain her, she gave herself entirely to the person and to the work of her Son; she did so in order to serve the mystery of redemption with him and dependent on him, by God's grace:"

Called in the Gospels "the mother of Jesus," Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit even before the birth of her son, as "the mother of my Lord". In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is truly "Mother of God" (Theotokos).
(Catechism of the Catholic Church)

After greeting her cousin Elizabeth, who was with child, Mary said, "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.  For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.  The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.  His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.  He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.  He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.  The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.  He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."

From our first encounter with Mary in the bible, we know that she has great love for God and does His will unceasingly, with great humility, faith, and obedience.  In her canticle, the first thing that Mary says is that her soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and we see this in the few times that she is mentioned in the bible; her words are few but provide great depth to our own relationship with her Son Jesus Christ.
One of my favorite scripture verses is when Mary and Jesus are at the wedding in Cana.  Mary sees that they have no more wine and tells Jesus.  "And Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me?  My hour has not yet come."  His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." (Luke 2:4-5)  Jesus then tells the servers to fill the stone jars with water and Jesus turns it to wine, then tells them to bring a cup to the headwaiter in which the headwaiter thinks that the bridegroom saved the best wine for last.  First, Mary notices our need and then she immediately brings it to Jesus.  She doesn't ask us if it's OK with us, she doesn't wait to see if our needs are filled elsewhere, and she is not afraid to bring the need to her Son.  Mary knows our needs can only be filled in her Son Jesus Christ.

Mary's role in our salvation does not end when she is assumed into heaven, but continues for all eternity with her Son Jesus Christ, as our spiritual mother, intercessor, helper, advocate, and mediatrix - to name a few of her titles.  "Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.  When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."  Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother."  And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.  (John 19:25-27)
"All generations will call me blessed":  "The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship."  The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion.  From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs.... This very special devotion.. differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."  The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church)

There are many devotions and prayers for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and she has appeared many times to people on earth to give messages of repentance, prayer, and love for her Son Jesus Christ.

Consecration to Jesus through Mary is life changing!  I was consecrated to Jesus through Mary on the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes.  After I finished my consecration I was searching places in the United States that have shrines of Our Lady of Lourdes, and I was wishing that I could visit one because I thought that I would NEVER make it to Lourdes, France.  The next year I did, actually, travel to Lourdes, France apart of a Marian Pilgrimage and it was an amazing experience!

"Marian consecration basically means giving Mary our full permission (or as much permission as we can) to complete her motherly task in us, which is to form us into other Christs. Thus, by consecrating ourselves to Mary, each of us is saying to her:
Mary, I want to be a saint. I know that you also want me to be a saint and that it's your God-given mission to form me into one. So, Mary, at this moment on this day, I freely choose to give you my full permission to do your work in me, with your Spouse, the Holy Spirit.
As soon as Mary hears us make a decision, she flies to us and begins working a masterpiece of grace within our souls. She continues this work for as long as we don't deliberately choose to change our choice from a yes to a no, as long as we don't take back our permission and leave her." (33 Days to Morning Glory, A Do-It-Yourself Retreat)

We learn from saints before us that Mary is a powerful intercession and Satan fears her.  "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers;  They will strike at your head, while you strike at their heel." (Genesis 1:15)  Mary is not equal to her Son Jesus but raises us to Him by her motherly intercession.

* But the power of Mary over all the devils will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her heel: that is to say, her humble slaves and her poor children, whom she will raise up to make war against him. They shall be little and poor in the world’s esteem, and abased before all like the heel, trodden underfoot and persecuted as the heel is by the other members of the body. But in return for this they shall be rich in the grace of God, which Mary shall distribute to them abundantly. They shall be great and exalted before God in sanctity, superior to all other creatures by their lively zeal, and so well sustained with God’s assistance that, with the humility of their heel, in union with Mary, they shall crush the head of the devil and cause Jesus Christ to triumph.  - Saint Louis de Montfort (True Devotion to Mary)
* Such is the will of God that we should have everything through Mary.  - St. Alphonsus Liguori
* Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin Mary too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did and If anyone does not wish to have Mary Immaculate for his mother, he will not have Christ for his brother.  - St. Maximilian Kolbe
* From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s Will in all things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God!  - Blessed Pope John Paul II

Immaculate Heart of Mary

 Our Lady of Fatima

Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
"O Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee."

Prayers to our beautiful mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary:
Sub Tuum Praesidium - We Fly to Thy Patronage:
We fly to your patronage,
O Holy Mother of God,
Despise not our petitions in our necessities,
But deliver us from all danger,
O ever glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Morning Offering:
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings
of this day for the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union
with all the Masses said throughout the world, in
reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all our associates,
for those who will die this day, for the holy souls in purgatory,
and in particular, for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

The Memorare:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known, that anyone who fled
to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought
thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee I come, before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy
hear and answer me. Amen.

Ave Maris Stella:
Hail, bright star of ocean,
God's own mother blest,
Ever sinless Virgin
Gate of heavenly rest.

Taking that sweet Ave
Which from Gabriel came,
Peace confirm within us,
Changing Eva's name.

Break the captives' fetters,
Light on blindness pour,
All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore.

Show thyself a Mother;
May the Word Divine,
Born for us thine Infant,
Hear our prayers through thine.

Virgin all excelling,
Mildest of the mild,
Freed from guilt, preserve us,
Pure and undefiled.

Keep our life all spotless,
Make our way secure,
Till we find in Jesus
Joy for evermore.

Through the highest heaven
To the immortal Three,
Father, Son, and Spirit,
One same glory be. Amen.

Fatima Prayers:
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you!
I beg pardon of you for those who do not believe,
do not adore, do not hope, and do not love you.

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
I adore you profoundly and offer you the most
precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ
present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation
for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences with which
he is offended. And through the infinite merits of his most
Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg you
the conversion of poor sinners.

Hail Mary:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Your Son, was made
known by the message of an angel, may by His passion and Cross,
be brought to the glory of His Resurrection through the same
Christ our Lord. Amen

The Magnificat
My soul does magnify the Lord,
my spirit has rejoiced in God, my Saviour.
for He has looked with favor on this lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed.
The Almighty has done great things for me and
Holy is His name,
He has mercy on those who fear Him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of His arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has come to help of His servant Israel,
for He has remembered His promise of mercy,
the promise He made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.

Hail, Holy Queen!
Hail, Holy Queen,
Mother of mercy;
our life, our sweetness
and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you we send up our sighs,
mourning
and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy towards us and,
after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit
of your womb, Jesus.
O Clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Marian Prayers from The Catholic Doors Ministry - Marian Prayers
Medjugorje Today

Please pray for our Blessed Mother's intercession for help and guidance when faced with trials and in times of temptation.  Through her love for God she is a model of faith and obedience for us. She loves us and wants to lead us to her son, Jesus.

Pray the rosary every day, or as often as you can.

 Heavenly Father,
you blessed the Virgin Mary with the fullness of grace.  She is my model of faith, hope and love.
I give this new year to her intercession and ask for her holy prayers.  Place my needs into the protection of her motherly love.  With her help, I want my faith to grow.  Give me an increase in the virtue of hope when troubles tempt me to despair.
Guide me in understanding your infinite love.  And join my heart, dear Lord, to the Holy Mother's Immaculate Heart, so that I may improve in loving everyone unconditionally, in imitation of my Savior, Jesus.  Amen

My Queen!  My Mother!  I give thee all myself, and to show my devotion to thee, I consecrate to thee my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self.
Wherefore, O loving Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, defend me, as thy property and possession.
Amen

Mary, Help of Those in Need
Holy Mary, help those in need, give strength to the weak, comfort the sorrowful, pray for God's people, assist the clergy, intercede for religious.
Mary all who seek your help experience your unfailing protection.  Amen
